SPAIN / PRIMARY LYMPHEDEMA AND SECONDARY LYMPHEDEMA / LYMPHOEDEMA / EPIDEMIOLOGICAL RESULTS / PREVALENCE / NUMBER OF PEOPLE AFFECTED / OVER A MILLION AND A HALF AFFECTED BY DISEASES OF THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM / / LISTED BY AUTONOMOUS REGIONS

A cautious estimation was made in Germany in the year 2003, which stated that approximately 3 million people were affected by diseases of the lymphatic system in that country. As there are no statistics in Spain due to the lack of registration of these patients, the German estimation can serve as a guide to calculate the possible number of people affected. With a population of 46,000,000 in the year 2014, it shows that there could be around 1,672,000 people affected in Spain by diseases of the lymphatic system. The result is close and equals that of the WHO (World Health Organization), which estimates that 1 in 30 people worldwide suffer from lymphedema.
